Troubleshooting MDX

 MDX Error

The Most Common reasons:

  • Format of the MDX. Dimensions on rows can be stacked, but not columns. Make sure your MDX is not stacking columns.

  • The user’s tm1 security. Sometimes TM1 doesn’t throw a meaningful error when the user doesn’t have enough security rights to get the view from the MDX. Sometimes it throws generic errors such as “syntax error” or “could not construct view array”. If you see this in the PowerConnect logs and the syntax is valid, check the user’s security privileges. To check that the syntax is valid, an admin can test it through the MDX Validator on the PowerConnect Admin Platform.

  • MDXS needs to be pasted as a one-line statement. This is a limitation coming from Power BI input boxes. The Arc for TM1 MDX Lab has a feature to format MDXs as a one-line statement.
