Using Hierarchies in DBH and DBHW Formulas

Using Hierarchies in DBH and DBHW Formulas

Slice introduces two hierarchy-aware formulas — DBH and DBHW — that work like the standard DBR and DBRW formulas but with explicit hierarchy references.

Formula Syntax

The key difference from DBRW is the inclusion of :HierarchyName after each dimension name.

How Slice Generates DBHW Formulas Automatically

Slice will automatically generate DBHW formulas in the data area — instead of standard DBRW formulas — whenever a view contains references to hierarchies.

You do not need to write these formulas manually. Simply export a hierarchy-aware view to Excel, and Slice handles the formula generation.

Verifying DBHW Formulas in a Report

  1. Export the P&L_2 view from the General Ledger cube to Excel as a Slice (with a hierarchy in the titles area, as set up in the SUBNM section).

  2. Inspect the cells in the data area.

  3. You will see DBHW formulas instead of the standard DBRW formulas, each containing dimension-hierarchy references.
