Troubleshooting

This section gathers the most common issues with Slice. Select a topic below for the full troubleshooting steps.

Topic

Quick overview

Slice add-in has been blocked by Excel

Excel blocked the slice.64.xll add-in, so the Slice ribbon does not appear. Unblock the file from its Windows Properties.

Slice with Perspectives or PAfE

Only one Planning Analytics Excel add-in can be active at a time. Disable Perspectives or PAfE before loading Slice.

Personal.xlsb file in XLSTART directory

A Personal.xlsb workbook in Excel's XLSTART folder can run VBA that crashes Slice. Review or remove it.

Unable to show the Server Explorer

Antivirus is blocking the embedded EO browser that Slice uses. Add the Slice installation folder to the antivirus exceptions.

Enable VBA

Slice buttons run through VBA macros. Enable VBA and trust access to the VBA project object model in the Excel Trust Center.

Getting Slice Logs

Where to find excel.log, how to switch on Debug-level logging, and how to send logs to Cubewise Support.

Slice Server Explorer Blank Page Troubleshooting

A blank Server Explorer is usually a corrupt cache or blocked browser. Clear the Slice cache, then check antivirus exclusions.

Slice: # / ## element-name conflict

Slice reads # and ## as calculation prefixes. Change the prefixes if element names or aliases contain these characters.

Improving Slice Excel Report Performance

If reports do not pass subsets into DBRW functions, disable Support Subsets in DBRWs to speed up refresh times.

Troubleshooting First-Time Slice Login Failures on Restricted Networks

First-time SSO login fails from a restricted network while a normal browser works, because the embedded login process eowp.exe is blocked. Use Namespace mode, or allow eowp.exe outbound access.
