Using Hierarchies in Active Forms

Using Hierarchies in Active Forms

Active Forms in Slice support hierarchies in both row formulas (TM1RptRow) and column formulas (TM1RptCol), giving you the flexibility to report across alternative dimension structures.

TM1RptRow Formula Syntax with Hierarchies

The :HierarchyName is added after the dimension name, following the same pattern as SUBNM formulas.

Step-by-Step Example

  1. Open the Slice Explorer and navigate to the General Ledger cube.

  2. Open the P&L_2 view.

  3. Place the Region:Currency hierarchy on the rows.

  4. Export the view to Excel as an Active Form.

  5. Inspect cell B22 — the formula will contain a reference to Region:Currency:

Viewing Results by Hierarchy Element

To see data for a specific element within the hierarchy:

  1. In the SUBNM formula for the Region dimension (e.g. cell C14), change the selection from Total Europe to England.

  2. Refresh the sheet (SHIFT+F9 or ALT+F9).

  3. The Active Form will display data for England using the Currency hierarchy structure.

Key Points

  • The hierarchy syntax (:HierarchyName) is the same across SUBNM, DBHW, TM1RptRow, and TM1RptCol formulas.

  • When you export a view that includes a hierarchy on rows or columns, Slice automatically generates the correct TM1RptRow/TM1RptCol formula with the hierarchy reference.

  • All standard Active Form functionality (expand/collapse, Paste Range, Annotations, Cell Audit) works identically when using hierarchies.
